"Wildhaven began with one simple goal: to stop the winter morning battle with wool layers my kids actually WANTED to wear."
How we got started
As an Alaskan mom, my kids needed warm base layers for outdoor play - school, skiing, camping, etc, but I couldn't find ones I liked that they would wear. Morning were already chaotic with full-time work and 2 toddlers. The battle to get them dressed was exhausting.
Cotton kills. I didn't want synthetics. But every wool option I tried was too itchy for my fussy littles. Not their fault - but if it wasn't comfy, they wouldn't wear it.
Eventually, my frustration after trying brand after brand pushed me to do something about it. I found some super high quality merino fabric (not itchy at all), and sewed my daughter a set of wool layers in colors she loved.
Kids grow fast. These don't.
One of things I knew I wanted that wasn't available in other brand out there were woolies in a "grow-with-me" style. I made these layers in using design principles that help clothes "grow" with kids and expand as they get bigger. That way one nice thing can last for years, instead of a single season.
The first time my kids wore them, everything changed. They were warm, comfortable, and happy to stay outside longer. Getting dressed stopped being a battle.
And when friends started asking for their own sets, Wildhaven was born.
Why merino
Merino regulates temperature, resists odor, and stays comfortable across changing weather - which means kids can stay outside longer.
And that’s really the whole point. (That, and the fact that it's super cozy and your kids will actually wear it).
I have continued to modify the design over years and dozens of prototypes to make what I believe are the very best kids base layers possible.
A lot of thought and years of testing goes into our products and I think our customers would agree with me that it shows!
What started as a solution for my own kids has grown into something bigger.
Wildhaven is now a community of families who value outdoor play, thoughtful design, and clothing that actually works in real life.
