Our story
Wildhaven began with one simple goal: make wool layers kids actually want to wear outside.
How we got started
As an Alaskan mom, my kids needed warm base layers but I couldn't find wool ones they wanted to wear.
Cotton got cold. Synthetic layers made them sweaty. And every wool option I tried was too itchy for their sensitive skin.
Eventually, my frustration at the "morning dressing battle" pushed me to do something about it.
But I knew how important outdoor play was, and I wanted my kids to love being outside the way I always had.
So I did what I knew how to do: I pulled out my sewing needle - my superpower - and made something better.
Kids grow fast. These don't.
I pulled out some superfine merino wool jersey I was saving for a special project and started to sew.
I found a "grow-with-me" pattern that I knew was sized to fit for a few years. If I was gonna make really great base layers (from expensive fabrics!) for toddlers, they'd better fit for more than one season.
The first time my kids wore them, everything changed. They were warm, comfortable, and happy to stay outside longer. Getting dressed stopped being a fight.
And when friends started asking for their own sets, Wildhaven was born.
Why merino
Merino regulates temperature, resists odor, and stays comfortable across changing weather - which means kids can stay outside longer.
And that’s really the whole point. (That, and the fact that it's super cozy and your kids will actually wear it).
I have continued to modify the design over years and hundreds of prototypes to make what I believe are the very best kids base layers possible.
A lot of thought and years of testing goes into our products and I think our customers would agree with me that it shows!
What started as a solution for my own kids has grown into something bigger.
Wildhaven is now a community of families who value outdoor play, thoughtful design, and clothing that actually works in real life.
